Greetings,

This weekend I will be doing my third review on Mystery Box Gaming.

Background Info:

Mystery Box Gaming was first established around December 2009. It is located at 89 Short Street, Golden Wall Centre. They were well known for their cheap rates and above average computer speed.

First impression:

I managed to count that they have more than 50 gaming station. Quite a small sized LAN shop.

  • The environment was very dark as there are no ceilings lights.
  • It is also very noisy inside as every station has speakers.
  • You can hear people blasting different types of music and the temperature was a little warm.
  • There was a smoking odor inside too.

It totally turns me off. Very bad for eyesight.

Environment [2/5stars]

Price & Service:

The most eye catching thing about this shop is that their PC is all located at this tall tower at every row. Each cabinet consists of 10 Computer motherboards and hardware.

Based on my experience, they have custom-made these transparent cabinets to store all the PC hardware in it. This makes the cables very organized and tidy as this acts as a central station.

After spectating the surrounding, i decided to proceed to the counter and intend to play for 3hours. The counter staffs showed me a prices list as followed :

(Non Member)
$2/Hour  [Monday-Sunday]

(Member)
$2 First Hour, $1/Every Subsequent Hour  [Monday-Friday]
$2 First Hour, $1.5/Every Subsequent Hour [Saturday / Sunday]

(Register For A Membership)
$5 Fee, Free 3Hours + 1 Free Drink

After some simple calculation, I decided to signup as a member and make use of the 3 Free Hours and a free drink.

I then told the staff that I wanted to sign up and be a member. From his facial expression, i knew that he was unwilling to sign me up as a member as it would be a long process to for him to key in my particulars. I saw a frown on his face when he just passed me a form to fill up and impatiently waited for me to complete filling up the form. I can see from the counter's reflection that he was in the middle of a game. Well, maybe that's why the prices are cheap.

Price [4/5stars]

The Experience:

They are using the following gears

22" LG Flatron LCD Monitor.
Logitech X-140 Speakers
Logitech MK120 Keyboard and Mouse Bundle

No Headset and Webcam provided. The chair was comfortable but a little dirty. The keyboard and mouse has dirt on it. Sweat dirt and oil. I had no choice to purchase a packet of tissue paper and clean it on my own.

Apart from that, while i was trying out all the high end games, the computer there did not give me any problem was really smooth without any disconnection / spike or lag. Along with great varieties of games too.

I did not really enjoy the sound as the whole LAN shop was filled with different kind of sound effect. My eyes were a painful due to the contrasting environment and I had to take a few breaks in between my 3 hours session.

Equipment [3/5]
Variety Of Games [4/5]
Speed Of Computer [5/5]

Conclusion:

Gaming there for 3 hours was a average. Though the computer did not give me any trouble, i was unable to focus on my game due to the environment. The price of the drink and tidbits were quite reasonable too.

Pros:

  1. Very affordable rates
  2. Good computer speed
  3. Comfortable seat.
  4. Very tidy cabling.

Cons:
  1. Dark and Noisy environment
  2. Unmaintained gaming equipments
  3. Crowded during week ends
  4. Not up to standard customer service

Rating:

Overall this LAN shop deserve a 3/5Stars rating. It would not be the right place for you to be at, if you are one of those who prefers quality. But if you are going for casual gaming, the rates are really cheap.

Hello people, I'm Back!

I will be doing my second review on Khakabo LAN Gaming.

Background Info:

Khakabo LAN gaming was first started at August located at 10 Middle Road, IOI Plaza. They then decided to shift thier venue to 175 Bencoolen Street, Burlington Square. They are have 95 Gaming stations together with their comfortable sofa seat.

This picture taken above, was taken by me when I was there on Saturday November 17. This is the entrance of Khakabo LAN Shop. Unfortunately, when i went in, the receptionist told me that i was not allowed to take pictures inside the LAN shop. Therefore i had no choice but to keep my phone in my pocket. The remaining photos are not taken by me and does not belong to me.

First Impression:

This is what you will be viewing when you walk into the entrance.

I was there and saw more than 100 of these computer.

  • The most eye catching thing about this shop is that their seat is a sofa. Very comfortable and makes you feel like home.
  • The temperature in this shop is kind of too cold. For the females, do bring along a jacket as I was almost shivering too.
  • The environment was great as you wont be hearing many people shouting as they are provided with a headset on every station.

Environment [4/5stars]

Price & Service:

After walking around and viewing the computer, I then decided to use a station for 3hours, as the rates are very reasonable. They are charging only $2 for a hour. Its one of the cheapest prices available at that area. My opinion of it is that there are many other LAN Gaming shops around there, and therefore to be competitive in prices, they decided to remain their prices even after they have moved out of IOI plaza. Apologies as i do not have a photo and unable to find one on the prices and rates.

Their way of payment are different as the user would need to pay after using the computer. You will be given a number tag and when you are done playing, then you would need to pay up. You might over shoot the budget that you have, so do remember to bring out extra cash if you are playing for long :)

The Experience:

This was the computer they had.

The monitor they used was a 27" Acer LED mointor. Very large screen size (one of the biggest i ever used). Both keyboard and mouse by Microsoft.

Quite a decent pair of gears, but what i like about them is that they are clean. Before i started using, of the their staff were cleaning it. He told me that they will be cleaning both keyboard and mouse when users finish their usage.

The sofa chair was very comfortable. Very good sensation (MUST TRY)

There were limited games installed. Most online games could be found there, but i was expecting a little more than average. Only installed a certain amount of common games.

With my experience, i have realized that they had this Software which removes all user data when the computer shutdown and will revert its state back to default. Which means that any computer virus or key loggers installed by the previous user will be removed too. Brilliant idea.

They have other equipments such as a headset and webcam to allow users to work there to.

This picture was taken by me before leaving.

Conclusion:

Gaming there for 3 hours was a joy. The computer did not give me any trouble and was very smooth in terms of performance. The price of the drink and tidbits were quite reasonable too.  $1.20 for a bottle of drink.

I have to agree with, Joey "Murray" M. who posted a review:

Khakabo has the comfiest seats, best gaming equipment (headphones, keyboards, mouses, monitors, wide selection of games), the friendliest staff (trust me, when you've been in a 24-hour LAN shop, some people get pressed and aren't always nice...), fast internet, and as they have two outlets open within walking distance of each other, you're almost always guaranteed a seat for yourself and your friends!

I had a great time there. Good environment, service and equipments.

Pros:

  1. Excellent environment
  2. Good service
  3. Normal computer speed
  4. Good variety of equipments
  5. Affordable rates
  6. Comfortable sofa seat

Cons:
  1. Limited games
  2. Crowded during week ends

Hi Peeps!
I will be doing my first post by introducing you guys to a LAN Gaming shop named "Colosseum"

Background Info:

Colosseum used to be located at Level 7 of illuma@Bugis. They used to be Singapore Number 1 Biggest LAN Center which consist of more than 100 gaming PC. Then illuma@Bugis was taken over by another owner and now it is called Bugis+. Colosseum then shifted to Level 5 of Bugis+ which turn out to be half in size of the previous location.

All pictures were taken by me when I was there on Saturday November 11. This is the entrance of Colosseum LAN Shop.

First Impression:

The interior, I managed to count that they have around 67 gaming PCs. The environment was very clean too. The feeling it gave me was cozy as the temperature was just right. I loved it.

Environment [4/5stars]

Price & Service:

As the woman at the counter greeted me with a warm welcome, she showed me the sign listing the rates they are charging. Comparing with the other LAN Shops, their prices are a little pricey. Therefore i just paid $3.50 for a hour.

I prefer the way they process the transaction as the user would need to pay first before using the computer. At other LAN shops, you are given a number tag and when you are done playing then you would need to pay up. I prefer the method Colosseum are using as it will not over shoot the budget that you have and you need not worry that u do not have enough to pay up.

Service [4/5stars]
Price [3/5stars]

The Experience:

This was the computer i had used. The monitor they used was a 23" Acer LED mointor. Good screen size. In addition, they were using both keyboard and mouse by Steel Series. These are no ordinary keyboard and mouse. They are the latest gaming gears. The leather chair was comfortable too.

Steel Series 6Gv2 Keyboard
Steel Series Sensei Mouse
Steel Series 5Hv2 Headset

There were many amount of games installed too. Most online games could be found there, but i was expecting a little more such as 70 over games.

While playing a game "The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and "Left 4 Dead 2" both at the Highest resolution and quality, the graphic does not "spike" nor turn "laggy". The PC turns out to be an Acer Predator Machine.

Equipment [4/5]
Variety Of Games [3/5]
Speed Of Computer [5/5]

It was quite an experience. The sound, equipments and seat was great. After that 1 hour, i went to the counter to grab some tidbits. There were even display shelves selling gaming equipments too.

The prices compared to retail stores are the same. The staffs then told me they are also the official retailers for SteelSeries, Tt eSPORTS and Razer™.

Conclusion:

Overall I had a great time there. Good environment, service and equipments.

Pros:
  1. Cozy Environment
  2. Good Service
  3. Good computer speed
  4. Good gaming equipment ready

Cons:
  1. Expensive
  2. Crowded during week ends
